Hulu on 360/PS3

And it works like a charm. At least on my 360. Instant access to a bunch of shows on your big screen.

I love you magnus (in a totally platonic way).

Installed and tried it last night. It worked smoothly. In addition to HULU and YouTube, it also had streaming video clips from CNN, CBS, and ESPN. There was a Netflix catagory too, labeled as 'Coming Soon.'
Unfortunately it only allowed HULU television content to be streamed. No streaming movies.

Stupid Hulu that doesn't work in Canada.

I looked around but I couldn't find it. What blade is it in?

I haven't installed it yet, but their website had instructions, and the page with the instructions is currently down while they're fixing a bug in the download, but it was the Videos blade.

Awesome sauce. I'll have to give this a try, as Hulu is pretty much my TV source anymore. Anyone who has messed with it, do you know if the Hulu embedded controls are still available, as in being able to switch to the 480p stream as opposed to the 360p stream?

Have not seen this yet. Looks like some shows are in 480p, while others are 360p. I haven't verified though. Firefly, for example, *looks* like 480p, but I'm not 100% sure.

There's a difference in sound quality as well. You could try comparing it to your PC, as the sound quality change is much more discernible than the visual one. Although, in a few hours, I'll be home and can try myself.

I went to sign up and they say the download has been temporarily suspended although a post in their forums say there'll be a new version today or tomorrow.

So cool, thanks for the heads up. Works like a charm, as billed.

Wow, just downloaded it. This thing is freaking awesome. I haven't tried the 360 yet, but the PS3 works like a charm. It even lets me fast-forward the commercials!
I think the interface could use one smidgen of improvement - delineate the seasons and episode number. It's not present on the PS3. Like I said, haven't had a chance to try the 360 out yet, so it may be there.

I'm playing around with it now on my 360. It's listed alphabetically. Very cool software.

I tried it with Xbox 360.
All of the shows I tried were 3 min in lenght max -- is this a limitation of the Trial 60-day version? The full version costs $30.
Browsing was very fast, but the descriptions of the shows (below thumbnails) were truncated and not auto-scrolled.
The quality appeared 360p or theresuch. I definitely wouldn't settle for it if it is representative of the quality of the final product. But the playback started very quickly, streaming was smooth, and 360 was able to control all playback aspects -- change frame size, ff/rewind etc. There were no commercials in the shows I tried (The Simpsons, G4, and a few others), only a HULU splash in the beginning. Probably because these were not full episodes.
I haven't checked yet what are the resource demands of the app that runs on the PC side. According to what is labeled as "coming soon" in the GUI, they're looking to add a full blown DLNA media server support to it, obviating the need to run a WMP11 Media Sharing Service in parallel. We shall see.

Nope, I've seen full episodes. (Try Firefly)

Installed it last night and was watching Jericho on my PS3 within a few minutes. This is a really cool app. While the quality of the audio/video isn't fantastic, the sheer wealth of content more than makes up for it. The CBS catalog is huge... not to mention the Hulu stuff.

that's nice.
how do you install Hotspot Shield on a PS3 to spoof my DNS/IP?
Also, what's your connection speed? I'm at 2Mbps here in Mexico (thinking about upgrading to 4).

Last night I watched the episode of WKRP where Carlson throws the turkeys out of a helicopter for Thanksgiving, followed by the first episode of Carrier. It's very very nice. I will escalate that to full-blown manluff (along with a purchase) if they can order the shows by Season and Ep Number. Nothing beats being able to call up Buck Rogers and Classic BSG on demand.
Likely the shows you were punching up only had short clips on Hulu. I noticed Futurama only had clips too. Also, some shows only have a couple of episodes rather than full-blown seasons.

Which is the only thing Dallas has over Houston. I would kill for FIOS. Seriously, I check Verizon's website every month or so in the hopes that we'll get it.

a little off topic here, but I've just started FIOS service here in the Portland suburbs (still getting used to saying "I live in the suburbs and its great. I'm paying less for their 20/20 service (15/15 according to speedtests), plus digital TV w/ HBO than I was for Comcast w/ speedboost and similar TV package.
Back on topic, I'm contemplating a PS3 for a bluray/media box. I'm not really thinking of it for gaming, as I've never been a console player. I own a ps2, but only occasionally play some guitar hero. This fall has enough coming out on the PC that I won't be able to play all I want (Clear Sky, new Witcher, Fallout 3, etc.). Plus, I could conceivable put all of my gaming hours into LOTRO and be perfectly content. Anyway, can someone help me make a case that a PS3 connected to a media server w/ nero home or Tversity would give me an advantage over a HTPC running XP MCE or mythtv? I'm leaning towards believing my desire for the console is just gadget lust.

has anyone with a considerably lower bandwith access tried it?
I'm aware that even with 2Mbps I'm gonna have big buffer times (mumble... mumble... stupid 15Mbps connection... mumble), but I'm more than ok to wait 10 to 15 minutes for a movie/show to buffer up, but i'd really hate to schedule anything with a 45 minutes or 2 hours lead times, that might as well make the closest Blockbuster more readibly available (even if depressingly scarce in titles).

As mentioned, for those of us outside of the US Hulu isn't an option for us. Unfortunately this solution won't work for the PS3 or 360 but I did find a working solution for the Mac and Windows: Using Hotspot Shield to access Hulu. From Canada the connection seems pretty reasonable, surprisingly enough.

I've tried to install HotSpot Shield and PlayOn on the same PC to see if PlayOn would work on the 360 or PS3 in Canada. I can browse Hulu shows on the 360 however video streaming doesn't work.
When starting HotSpot Shield it does indicate a potential problem with running multiple network connections. Given that you have your LAN IP and then the VPN IP provided by HotSpot Shield, I'm speculating that the video streaming is buggered up on which IP it needs to route the connection through, although I could be wrong.
Your mileage may vary.

I take my post back, PlayOn with HotSpot Shield works on the 360 (I haven't tested on the PS3 yet). Often when you pick a video an error will be displayed, however if you dismiss it and try again it usually works. Hulu in Canada!
PlayOn doesn't have Hulu movies on it, does it?
This actually makes me want to subscribe to Netflix for online streaming, seeing as Netflix isn't available in Canada.
Update: Works flawlessly on the PS3 as well. Unfortunately all SD streams, as noted above, but nonetheless this is great!
