Anyone that plays Tabula Rasa?

Intern

I remember an article a few months ago that this was actually the WoW forum, laughingly called the MMORPG forums. *grin*

Anyone play TR? I'm always surprised more people don't play it, I assumed WoW just has so much more to do that it's very easy to get bored.
Also I did search, but didn't find a TR thread for anything less than 10 months old!

I played back when it was first released. It was fun but did not hold my interest after a month or so. I am sure things have changed since launch, but with War Hammer so close to release I am not sure if I could be persuaded to give TR another shot. I do enjoy reading up on changes in MMOs I have not though about in a while and will now spend some time with the TR patch notes.

Thanks.

I actually re-activated a week ago and I started a new character. I'm not sure exactly why I did it. I just wanted something to spend time with until some other MMO that catches my interest shows up (WAR maybe?).

I'm having fun so far and I think I got to level 16. I was aiming for a Spy and I'm actually having more fun now than when I started playing at launch. I don't feel I'll be playing this for too long though.

Understandable so far. Most people have a lot of fun, but it doesn't have that MMO "hook" that makes you stay with it. Like CS or TF2, it's fun but only keeps you around for the fun parts.

Same here I activated my account this week again as well just to kill some time until WAR camos out. Seems like they have made some nice changes to the game but I haven't been playing long enough to know if it would hold my interest long term. Good for another month anyway though.

Same I activated a month ago, had great time - figured I would return again after the first of the year. I have a lot of MMO's I do this with too break up the grind...

I remember talk when I was still playing about Personal Armored Units in the works. Just spent some time on news sites and have failed to find any new info on them. If they where to be implemented it would be a definite reactivation of my account. The other issue I had with the game was pet controls as I played an Exobiologist. From what I have read that direct control has not been implemented yet but is in the works. If that where to be fixed it would be a huge draw for me as well.

I played in Beta, couldn't stand it and didn't give it a try. I've heard it's been markedly improved, but still very lacking.

Kinda sad to me, since I was really looking forward to it.

They've added a ton of stuff, but there's just so much to do and so little time. They keep us up to date on what they're doing, like that PAUs had to step down a few months to get other stuff out, and they're working on good stuff to keep us busy. Just takes a long time to get real results.

I see what you have done with your mind control. You all must play medics don't you. I have spent the last 3 hours reading up on TR and now have a terrible urge to reactivate my account. Maybe I will when I get home from work. What server do you guys play on, if I am to play again I at least want to do it socially.

I played through beta and the first month after launch... If they've been adding content the entire time i've been away it may finally be a full game.

Cassiopeia? The lowest population server? Sheesh.

They have been adding to the game, but not necessarily content. There's a few new instances, but nothing to keep you busy.

PAUs might be around at the end of the year, other fun stuff that they had ideas for keep getting pushed back because it takes much longer than they predict.

Really? I always see Cassiopeia with that orange icon on the server list, just like Orion, the East Coast server. I guess that means it has a Medium population. At least in the first 2 zones, I see people around all the time.

thats the main reason why i dont play. You hit 30 and there's not a damn thing to do and the places that are there to level are BORING

Do we all want to decide on a server and start playing together? I don't care which as I have no particular attachment to a character so if I have to reroll again I will.

I've still got a free 5 day trial sitting around and I was thinking about trying it out this weekend. I honestly know nothing about TR but I still wanna try it just because of the sci-fi setting. Any tips for a newbie on a weekend crash course?

Shotgun? Shotgun!

Seriously though just look through the wiki at the different classes and skills classes and skills to figure out what looks the most fun to you. No matter what you decided on do not neglect your Recruit skill firearms as it enhances the three bread and butter weapons Handguns, Rifles and Shotguns. You will use those throughout your entire career.

The game is pretty easy to jump into and just have fun.

One thing that I didn't get to do much the first time I played the game, was to defend outposts with a Control Point. This time around I've participated in several defenses and it's just plain fun!

If you get to a Control Point, just hang around for a few minutes and Aliunz will start attacking it. A whole bunch of drop ships will start coming and you can help the NPCs defend that outpost. The best thing to do would be to team up with whoever is there helping on defense, that way you will get shared XP and loot.

Last night, for example, I got 2 levels on my Ranger by forming a team and helping defend one of the Outposts in the Divide. I ended up getting quite a lot of armor/weapon upgrades too. I'm not sure if this is a viable way to XP all the way to level cap, but so far it's working great and the non stop action is very fun. I think it's a good alternative if questing got you bored.

Edit: There are several bases/outposts in every zone. You can identify Control Points by opening your map and you will see a Blue or Red Flag on top of the outposts. Those are CPs and you can either defend one or take them back if the enemy got a hold of it.

Well, I'm almost finished with my 5 day trial account and I've loved almost every minute I've played of this game so far. I definitely get the feeling there's not a lot of variety and that the grind could get old really quick but I've had a blast so far. If I only had to pay $5 a month I'd subscribe to this game in a heartbeat but at $15? I'm just not seeing enough to keep me playing that much. But for hopping in an hour here or an hour there a few times a week? This would be a ton of fun. Kind of a casual pseudo fps rpg. I've only made it to level 13 and I've just finished all the instances in the wilderness so I have no clue if things drastically change from this point forward but I'm guessing they don't.

I played a little last night again, they just added Update 11. I started a new toon - talk about night and day for beinging experience. If TR had launch as it is now it would be doing much better.

Still as many have said this is not a $15 a month game, $5 and I would be in...

Intern

Not sure what the same in this game is the same in any other game. You fight new and tougher aliens as you level up, you get bigger and better abilities, awesomer weapons, you see new and exciting scenery.
There's a lot of catering to story, so if you love story then TR will keep you through the entire game.

I can understand the perspective. Until more content is added, it's a great casual game. Next month they are adding training stuff so it's much easier to see the class branches and what kind of abilities there are at higher levels. Will be great for trials to see what's ahead.

That's the main point why i'm not playing. Not enough content. That was the first game that where i left the starting zone it felt barren. I'm not a fan of finding a spot to grind and do nothing but grind all day long. Not anymore at least.

I loaded up the trial last night. MUCH better first impression than I got from Vanguard (I was so turned off by Vanguard that I quit within 5 minutes and deleted the game. Im not even sure I can explain my reaction, it was almost an allergy ). Maybe its TR's recent reworking of the intro-tutorial system but the art style, combat and first mission were a great way to usher the player in.

I checked out Amazon and they are selling the retail box for $5(!) that includes the first free month. I wish I could buy 3 or 4 and just add on the time from the other boxes Is there a digital download version of the game thats cheaper than the $20 off NCSoft's site?

I like the concept of cloning a character instead of re-speccing. For added flexibility, they still have re-specs too. Player freedom is a good idea, designers! I'm enjoying it at least after 1 night. Ill probably at least get a copy for the first month and see how it goes.

Intern

None that I know of. The boxes are cheap even in a store, usually $9.99 regular price.

Well, my 5 day trial ran out around midnight last night. I ended the trial with a level 15 Commando, 15 (clone) Ranger, and 5 (clone) Specialist. I really did have a blast and I may revisit it for a month here and there during a slow gaming period. It was so extremely solo-friendly at the levels I was playing that it was just what I needed for a hop in, hop out kind of game. I never had to worry about finding a group to do this or that and the only time I was "forced" to play for any extended amount of time was if I went into an instance and wanted to clear out all the quests to avoid mobs resetting.

Just before I logged out for the night I took my newly minted commando to a CP that was under attack and just stood on the walls launching rockets into big packs of Bane. Just seeing a few dozen big red numbers pop up every time I launched a rocket made me smile. I likes the big booms and this game definitely scratched an itch for me. Shame it's $15 a month.

I ran into a control point being assaulted by NPCs last night. It ruined the escort mission I was doing but I totally didnt care. Jumping up on the wall and being able to contribute to the assault with about a dozen kills myself (at level 7!) was a ton of fun. I had no idea if there was any real strategy to it, I tried to pick off grunts mostly, and Linkers but it was fun. I probably got a lot of prestige out of it too.

Intern

Great! That's the leading cause of subscribers, just jumping in and having unexpected fun at control points. Nice to play a game and kill hordes of aliens instead of 1 at a time.

These control points are a more recent addition right? One thing I really like about it is that its accessible by anyone at any level, right there in the main world. You can be minding your own business and run into a serious skirmish.

I hope they expand on the concept without necessarily getting all the way to Planetside levels.

Intern

The control points have been in the game the whole time. Even back in beta, it was always part of the game.
They are expanding on it, hopefully within the next few months they will make some pvp control points, or the ability for clans to control them, etc.
