An Obama win would hurt African Americans?

If I follow correctly, the idea seems to be that if Obama wins then American whites will assume there's no more racial inequality. Convinced that the problem's been solved, whites will no longer work on racial relations and our steady progress in that area will stagnate, or even regress.
So there you have it. If you care at all about racial equality in America, DON'T VOTE FOR OBAMA.

Actin tha foo is going to look even more foolish. I really hope they take the opportunity to clean up their life and have more rewarding relationships. It will take time for sure.
I am really enjoying the Jamie Foxx produced "G's to Gentlement" TV show. I wish it was more like "Dr Drew's Celebrity Rehab" where you don't have someone voted off each week.

If you ask folks like Pat Robertson, racial injustice doesn't occur in this day in age unless you're referring to "reverse racism". Folks who are likely to believe such nonsense are unlikely to much altered by events or rational arguments.

At least it will prevent guys from going on TV and saying that there is no way a black man will ever be elected president. That's kind of a limited accomplishment in my mind, but I like to keep my goals easy to reach.
There's racism on both sides of the fence. Until people of all races judge people on their character, not their skin color, it's not going anywhere.
In a similarly brain-attack inducing argument, you could say the NAACP hurts the cause of racial equality, because they unite all people of color against "the white man".
Personally, I'm sick of this racist crap overall. (Some black guy telling me I don't know what it's like to be poor as hell and live in a bad neighborhood is getting really old.) But until everyone realizes there's some racisim there, we're not going to be able to move forward anymore. We're about at the point where merely targeting the "white-mans government" is going to do any good. We've got a ways to go, but I don't think the government needs to be our primary target either.

You may have already heard this 'This American Life' podcast but if you haven't it's really worth listening to. It's and amazing example of how an intelligent, fair minded African American man changed a lot of attitudes and broke down barriers (it's also interesting to hear about the conflicts he had with his own community. They sound similar to some of the things that are starting to be said about Obama.)

I think Racism is pretty much dead in America as it stands, sure there are small pockets of it in America that I have seen but all in all I think most people think people are dicks than say white,brown,black,yellow, red (did I miss anyone?)

I'd argue against the wording and the semantics, but let's just agree that the problem of racism in America has seen significant improvement over the past decades.

I know you may laugh when some points of discussion posit that Biden is more gangsta than Obama due to his off the cuff, "speak his mind" nature. But I can't help but think that the generations that grow up during an Obama presidency will have a different outlook on their potential.
I haven't seen this many African American's so happy, to their core, and proud of their country over substance, not hype. It seems, and rightfully so, this is their man on the moon. Its very moving.

I think, at the very least, it would inspire some people to have pride in their communities. I guess I'm envisioning some kind of hippie Hollywoodized sequence of events where people reject gang/drug presences in their neighborhoods and work towards improving living conditions and whatnot.

I've heard these "gems", that if Obama wins "I don't want to hear about affirmative action", and if he loses, it's because "America is a racist country and wouldn't vote for a black man." I am worried that if he does win, crazy racist white idiots are more likely to kill a black person than a crazy racist black person is to kill a white person. That would start something very bad.
If he does lose in 2008, imhop, he would have an excellent chance of winning in 2012.

Modern democrats haven't given guys a second bite at the apple and tend to blame the losing candidates bitterly. No one wanted Carter, Dukakis, Kerry, or Edwards back for a rematch. Even Gore might have had problem getting the nod in 2004 if he wanted it (he's a special case because of what happened in 2000). If Obama loses, you'll see all kinds of stories about how he was a poor candidate who made a lot of mistakes and "blew" what should have been an easy win.
